“Comfort Food” by Julia Wickes

“Comfort Food” by Julia Wickes

“Comfort Food” is a painting by Julia Wickes and is a 40″ by 30″ acrylic on canvas. The painting is part of her Food as Memoir series.

It’s story:

“My father was a funeral director in a family-owned mortuary in Medora, Indiana, when I was growing up.  I have many memories of attending funerals and “callings” of elderly relatives. They were family reunions and food was always included after the service.  It was a way to extend the visiting and to provide support for the family.  To me, food is an important part of hospitality and it is a way we nurture and comfort one another.”
